With the supports from China Academy of Sciences, National Natural Sciences Fund Committee and the Ministry of Science and Technology, the Organic-Molecule Electronic Device Group led by Research Fellow Liu Ming, Director of Micro-Processing and Nanometer Technology Laboratory of the Institute of Microelectronics, for a long term, has been involving in study on the basic problems regarding molecule electronics, recently has achieved the new progress for the study in term of high-performance organic field-effect transistor. The associated research results were released in well-known Journal of Materials Chemistry. 2009, advanced article, of the Royal Society on June 29, 2009. This is another new progress achieved in the field by the research group since the paper about organic electronic devices with low threshold voltage was released in IEEE Transactions on Electron Devices in March 2009.
Organic electronics is an important branch of electronics, in contrast to conventional silicon-based electronics, the most important difference lies in the material being used that is different polymers, plastics or small-molecule materials constituted by carbon atoms. At present, studies on organic electronics mainly focus on the organic semiconductor field, and very richer achievements have been obtained, many practical products developed by different big research companies including radio frequency identification (RFI) labels, watch digital display, Braille reader, portable solar cell blanket, have been gradually accessing to market. Organic devices, being low in costs, flexible, large in areas, ultra-thin and light in weight, have made application of electronic devices further penetrate into different aspects of people’s lives.
In the study on basic problems regarding molecule electronics, the Group led by Researcher \ Liu Ming (the participants include Ji Zhuoyu, Shang Liwei, Liu Ge, Liu Xinghua, Wang Hong, etc.) centers on organic functional materials with stable performance, proceeds from meeting the application requirements of devices in integrated circuits and have done a lot of works. The interface problem between organic functional materials and medium always is the hot spot and difficulty for study on molecule electronics. What the Group has done have optimized molecule alignment orientation of organic materials by conducting pattern modification for the medium layer of devices to improve performance and repeatability of devices thus lay a foundation for application of devices. Recently, the research group, on the basis of a thorough study on organic field-effect transistor, has carried out the corresponding integration works and achieved preliminary achievements.
