Professor Dr. Vijay K. Arora Visited IMECAS

On June 9 2014, Professor Dr. Vijay K. Arora from the Wilkes University visited the Institute of Microelectronics of Chinese Academy of Sciences (IMECAS). With Prof Ming Liu's arrangement, he delivered a lecture entitled Carbon: The Soul of Future Nanoelectronics in IMECAS hosted by Prof. Ming Liu. There were more than 30 attendees of local professionals and graduate students.  

In this talk, the integrated carrier statistics of Dirac Fermions in carbon allotropes comprising graphene nanolayer, graphene nanoribbons (GNR) and carbon nanotubes (CNTs) was described. Nonequilibrium Arora’s Distribution Function (NEADF) was the basis of transformation of randomly oriented to directed moments in the presence of an electric field, leading to saturation that was limited to the intrinsic Fermi velocity for carbon-based devices. In the semiconducting state, the intrinsic velocity was the saturation velocity that is substantially below the Fermi velocity depending on the carrier concentration. Velocity-field relation arising from NEADF was elaborated by a tanh function as a result of degeneracy temperature that rises linearly with carrier concentration in the strongly degenerate regime. Current-voltage characteristics and high-field-initiated resistance surge indicated the transformed nature of existing paradigms in nanoelectronics. The new points of his research on carbon made a big splash and reached a wide discuss. 

After the lecture, a symposium was held with the attending of researchers from the Laboratory of Nanofabrication and Novel Device Integration Technology of IMECAS, both sides introduced their recent works and had an effective discussion.
