Institute of Microelectronics of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (IMECAS) organized the 7th International Conference on Computer Aided Design for Thin-Film Transistor Technologies (CAD-TFT 2016) at the Beijing Xijiao Hotel, Beijing, China from October 26 to 28, 2016.The conference was co-organized by Tsinghua University and Shanghai Jiao Tong University. This conference served as a platform for the TFT community to address the challenges and find innovative solutions for modeling of new technology TFTs, TFT circuit design and system integration.
The CAD-TFT 2016 technical program consisted of 35 orals and 20 poster papers. In addition, the conference featured 6 plenary and 24 invited papers presented by top scientists or engineers. Some of the papers will be recommended to be submitted to IEEE Journal of Display Technology or IEEE Transactions on Electron Devices.
There were 4 tutorials and panel discussion on“Opportunities and Challenges of Organic Thin-Film Transistors” on the first day.
The CAD-TFT 2016 opening ceremony was held on the second day where it was hosted by Prof. Ming Liu, a professor at the Institute of Microelectronics, CAS and the General Chair of the conference. And Prof. Tianchun Ye, the President of IMECAS also gave a short welcome in the opening ceremony. Following the opening ceremony of the conference were three plenary speeches by renowned speakers. Prof. Samar Saha, the President of IEEE Electron Device Society, delivered a talk entitled “IEEE Electron Devices Society: Mission and Technical Activities”, Prof. Arokia Nathan of University of Cambridge, UK, delivered a talk entitled “Design Tools for TFT Circuits and Systems”, and Prof. Kwang-Ting (Tim) Cheng of Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, China, delivered a talk entitled “Robust Design and Reliability Simulation for TFT Circuits”.
On the third day, there were three plenary speeches by renowned speakers too. Prof. Benjamin Iñiguez of the Universitat Rovirai Virgili, Spain, delivered a talk entitled “Recent Progress in TFT Compact Modeling and Parameter Extraction Techniques”, Prof. Yunqi Liu of Institute of Chemistry, Chinese Academy of Sciences, China, delivered a talk entitled “High Performance Organic Field-Effect Transistors and Circuits”, and Prof. Jamal Deen of McMaster University, Canada, delivered a talk entitled “Compact Modeling of Organic/Polymeric Thin Film Transistors - Past, Present and Future”.
There were 12 Sessions on Device and circuit for display, High performance TFT, TFT for new applications, Printed TFT, TCAD and compact modeling, Device and reliability, Circuit design, Simulation and characterization, New material TFT, Organic TFT, New circuit technology, and Flexible TFTs.
During the three-day event, more that 150 researchers shared their latest research findings and ideas in oral and poster sessions in areas related to CAD techniques on TFT technologies for displays, sensors and general large area, flexible and printed electronics. This conference provided a platform for the TFT community to address the challenges and find innovative solutions for modeling of new technology TFTs, TFT circuit design and system integration.
