WANG Shouwu, semiconductor device physicist, a native of Xuzhou, Jiangsu province. Graduated from Tongji University in 1941. He got his Master Degree in 1946 and Doctor Degree in 1949 from Purdue University in USAProfessor Wang is a researcher at the Institute of Semiconductor of CAS, and honorary director of Microelectronic Centre of CAS. In 1958, he prepared to establish the first transistor factory in our country. From 1963, Professor Wang has devoted to the research work of the GaAs lasers, and created a simple optical method to easily determine the crystal orientation and contributed to the success of the first GaAs lasers in our country. Since 1973, he has put forward some original academic viewpoints in study of GaAs high field domain dynamics and instantaneous and photo-electrical characteristic of PNPN negative resistance laser. From 1980 to 1985, while Professor Wang was hold the Director of 109 Semiconductor Factory of CAS concurrently, he led the scientific staffs to concentrate on the study of how to enhance the rate of finished products of LSIC and solved a series of technological problems, remarkably improved the rate of finished products and reduced the cost greatly. In 1980 , Professor Wang was elected the member of Chinese Academy of Sciences(academician ).
